When the women graduates of the S L U College fun by the Stree Kelavani Mandal started joining the teaching profession, there was no women college of education in Gujarat and these women had to go to Pune for training, hence in 1948, Stree Kelavani Mandal started the education department in the SLU College getting the SNDT University pass a special resolution for it.
The B.Ed. degree being compulsory for the Secondary School Teachers the number of students increased to 40. Gradually the lecturers were appointed and the classes for M.Ed. were also started. In the beginning Smt. Padmaben Fadia worked as the Head of the Department and then Dr. Yashomatiben Patel was appointed in 1963. The special feature of the SNDT University was that inexperienced trainees were admitted here and they had to take more practical lessons rather than the theoretical lessons. In June,1973 the institute was affiliated to Gujarat University.
In June 1975 the institute received the donation from Shree Manigauri Nansha Kalidas Dalal Trust. The education department was seperated from the SLU College and since then it is known as SMNK Dalal Educaiton College for Women.
